York Halloween Events You’ll Be Too Scared to Miss
Halloween is just a week away, and though visitors to York won’t be heading out trick-or-treating, there are loads of events taking place in the area that will get you feeling spook-tacular! If you love everything to do with the undead and pumpkins, take a look at what is happening when you come to stay at our holiday apartments in York.
Pumpkin Picking at Balloon Tree Farm
You can pick your own pumpkin from hundreds in the field at Balloon Tree Farm, on which you can carve a scary face. Balloon Tree Farm is located along the A166 at Gate Helmsley and is a high-quality food retailer. If you want to pick up some more local Yorkshire food to cook up at your serviced apartment, there is also a fantastic farm shop selling homegrown produce and a delicatessen, bakery and butchers. You can pick up a hamper, a great gift for any foodies back home.
Hallowscream at York Maze
Hallowscream is a terrifying – and entertaining – night of fear and fun, with live action haunted house attractions at York Maze, the biggest in Europe. The five haunted houses offer a different experience, though scares are not just confined to the houses, so stay alert! Hallowscream is a ticket only event and must be purchased online in advance. There are limited numbers available on each night, though tickets are still available from Thursday 25th October. The event ends on Saturday 3rd November, and prices range from £20 to £40. The Ghost Bus Tour in York
Take a trip around the city of York, stopping by some famous sites and learn about their ghoulish past. Top attractions include York Minster and Clifford’s Tower, and you’ll be surprised about how much of the city is haunted! The Ghost Bus Tour is the UK’s only comedy-horror theatre experience on wheels, and you are guaranteed some frightened laughter too! Get the bus from opposite York station, with tours starting at 7.30pm Sunday to Thursday and 6pm and 7.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Tickets are £15 for adults and £12 for students.
Ghost Walk Tours in York
York has seen a fair amount of bloodshed throughout its past which has led to several ghost tour attractions in the city. You can join a tour from 7pm, hitting the city’s top haunted spots on foot. There are several tours to choose from including The Original Ghost Walk of York (£5), The York Ghost Walk Experience (£5), The Ghost Trail of York (£4) and the Ghost Hunt of York (£6). On each tour, you’ll be told the stories about the city’s famous ghosts such as the Gray Lady and the Headless Earl, and tours last between an hour and an hour and a half.
Pumpkin Festival at Piglets Adventure Farm
Halloween falls right in the middle of half term in York, meaning there are plenty of family-friendly events taking place. Head to Piglets Adventure Park near Pocklington outside of York for their Pumpkin Festival. The whole family can join in the pumpkin carving; try not to get scared in the Mischief Manor and look for ghosts in the Mysterious Gaze. There is also the usual attractions such as crazy golf, bouncing pillows, go-karts and chance to meet some cute piglets! The Pumpkin Festival is 10am to 5.30pm each day from Saturday 27th October to Sunday 4th November. Tickets are £8.95 for children and £7.95 for adults.
Home of Halloween at York Dungeons
York Dungeon is a big fan of Halloween, and throughout October they have become the Home of Halloween. There are adult only and family events, and late openings to York Dungeons on the 27th and 31st October. The adults-only event takes groups through ten live shows filled with twists and turns, lots of scares, cheeky jokes and no kids! Tours start at 8pm and last 75 minutes. There are loads of decorations to enjoy, elaborately carved pumpkins and much more! Book your tickets online.
Pumpkin Carving Competition at The Lawrance
For guests staying at The Lawrance in York between the 27th and 31st October, we have a special competition to win a mystery prize! All you need to do is take the pumpkin you receive when arriving and carve a scary design using equipment from the kitchen in your apart-hotel. Take a photo and upload it to our Facebook page and we will choose the winner after the closing date. During your stay, be sure to check out the spooky cakes and pumpkin treats at Café 74!
