York Fashion Week

With less than a month to go until York Fashion Week, the city is bracing itself for an explosion of style, creativity and, of course, fashion! The Fashion Week is a seven-day event that will be held from 25th to 31st March with workshops, events and showcases popping up around the city. Businesses across York have collaborated to ensure a jam-packed calendar of events that will take place in some of York’s most beautiful and well-known venues. This will be a one-stop-shop for celebrating both high street brands, independent brands, designers and fashion in general. In this article, we’ll be looking at the highlights of each day and what you can expect from them:

Monday 25th

Dival Designer Boutique Pop Up Event

Specialising in unique pop up events, Dival Designer Boutique offers visitors the chance to purchase brand new designer clothing and preloved designer handbags at a fraction of the retail value. At this event, you’ll have the chance to see and purchase pieces from a range of designers such as Dior, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and more! The event takes place in the Ebor Room at The Principal York between 10.00am and 6.30pm and is free.

More Than Just a Tiny Waist

A historical presentation and workshop hosted by Dr Faye Prior, Assistant Director of Costume and Textiles at the York Castle museum, that examines the history of the corset. Take a look at examples from the Tudor period, the 18th-century and more modern designs from the industrial age. One for the fashion history buffs! The event takes place at York Castle Museum between 2.00pm and 3.00pm, price is museum admission plus £5 ticket fee.

Tuesday 26th

The Journey of Louis Vuitton

Hosted by the team from Louis Vuitton Leeds, this exhibition will showcase the history and importance of this iconic fashion label. Hosted by Joe Wilber-Moran, you’ll be taken through the colourful and stylish history of the company whilst enjoying a luxurious afternoon tea in The Principal Hotel. The event takes place between 12.00pm and 3.00pm at The Principal Hotel and tickets are £29.50.

Scott Henshall and Lady Victoria Hervey

Presenting an ultimate fashion showcase, prepare to be wowed by international designer Scott Henshall and the iconic Lady Victoria Hervey. Scott will be showcasing a collection of items with the intention of both shocking and inspiring the crowd. Additionally, Lady Victoria will be demonstrating her fantastic swimwear collection called Ladyship Swim. You’ll be offered a complimentary drink upon arrival, with the event being held in Mansions House, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm with tickets priced at £27.24.

Wednesday 27th

Style Me

A completely free event hosted at The Den in Micklegate Social, down the street from our aparthotel, showcasing the very best in male skincare, grooming and fashion. The event will be run by three bloggers who each have their own unique design and style, and it will give you the opportunity to explore which colours work for you, how to accessorise and how to embrace your own style while staying true to yourself. The event takes place from 6.00pm to 8.30pm.

Thursday 28th

Shambles Market Fashion Village

An iconic part of York, The Shambles is home to the largest group of independent traders in the city who will be hosting a fashion takeover as part of the York Fashion Week. Make sure you head along to this free event to experience a range of styles, designs and colours, along with some tasty street food and buzzing atmosphere. The event will be held between 10.00am and 4.00pm.

Getting to Know Lisa Byrne

The previous editor of OK Magazine, Lisa Byrne, will be recalling some of her most exciting and enthralling stories at a session in the Dean Court Hotel. Lisa now runs her own luxury PR company in her favourite city in the world, York. This session will offer an insight into exactly what it took to be at the helm of one of the UK’s most popular magazines. The event is £10.00 for a ticket and takes place between 1.00pma and 2.30pm.

Friday 29th

Queen of Extreme

Not for the faint-hearted, this exhibit that will be showcasing the work and influences of Vivienne Westwood who is known as one of Britain’s most eccentric but original designers. From iconoclastic outsider to one of the most renowned names in fashion, this talk will cover her career from the early days right up to the present. The event takes place at York Castle Museum between 2.00pm and 3.00pm and ticktes are £5 plus musum admission.

The Yorkshire Exhibition

A collaboration between Creat-Hive and Hotel Du Vin York that brings a combination of fantastic displays of creativity with a spectacular afternoon tea. Showcasing some of the best music and art from around Yorkshire, the event will also have several catwalks presenting a collection of the finest creative talents from the North. The event will be at Hotel Du Vin starting at 10.00am to 3.00pm. Tickets are £20.00.

Saturday 30th

The Feel-Good Fashion Fiesta

Hosted by image consultant Jackie Crawford, this workshop is designed to inspire and empower you to make the best fashion choices for you! For attending the workshop, you’ll receive personal advice suited to your style, along with an insight into the trends that best suit you. You’ll also receive a resource guide to help you make great fashion decisions and a goody bag full of treats! The event is at Browns on Davygate and takes place between 10.00am and 12.00pm. Ticket prices are £25.00.

Hope Fashion with Nayna

Nayna McIntosh is the founder of the Hope Fashion brand, which was created in 2014, and has led a hugely successful career which saw her work on the launch of the George range at Asda and as a member of the M&S Board for Per Una. Having seen a gap in the market of clothing for women over the age of 40, Nayna decided to open Hope. This event will allow you to learn more about Hope Fashion and have a chance to see some of Nayna’s new collection. This event will be held at The Principal Hotel between 2.00pm and 4.00pm and tickets are £10.

Sunday 31st

Empower Your Fashion – Be You!

This event is all about giving you the best tips on how to dress confidently for your natural colouring, lifestyle, body shape and personality — giving you the confidence and ability to rid yourself of the nagging voice of self-doubt. Join this workshop along with a number of similarly minded and supportive ladies and transform how you feel about your wardrobe! Hosted by Jackie Crawford who is a leading image consultant and Andrea Morrison, an experience transformational life coach & clinical hypnotherapist. The event will be held at the York Marriott Hotel from 10.00am to 3.00pm. Tickets are £50.00.
