A trip to the vibrant city of York should definitely be on your plans for this summer – discover quirky cocktail bars, fantastic shopping, culture and endless dining opportunities! Our serviced apartments, York, are ideal for a girl’s or guy’s weekend away, couples break and hen or stag dos, as the city-centre location means you have easy access to the city’s top attractions.
Glorious Food
Yorkshire as a whole is a haven for foodies, and York boasts some of the top restaurants of the county. Whether you fancy a delicious steak, vegan, vegetarian or a gourmet dish from around the world, there is plenty to choose from. In the summer months, you will find that many local and independent restaurants will have lots of locally grown produce on the menu to tantalise your taste buds. York also has loads of great cafés serving up fantastic lunches to fuel your day, and if you fancy eating outside under the sun, there are some lovely picnic spots around the city.
Spa Day
Your trip to York might be one for relaxing and where better than a spa? Many hotels and health clubs offer spa deals where you can get pampered to your heart’s content. Whether you are looking for massages, mani-pedis or facials, you are sure to find a spa to suit your needs and budget. A spa treatment is a lovely way to spend your day with your girlfriends, partner or as a surprise for your mum. You can even find packages which include a bottle of bubbly to really get you into the relaxing mood!
York Races
York Racecourse stages 17 race days between May and October each year, offering a chance to see world-class horseracing and a full day of entertainment. The Races are one of the biggest draws to the city during the summer, and an excellent excuse to have a weekend break. Take a look at our blog post on planning for a day at the races which has information on how to get to the racecourse, what to wear on the day and food and drink available.
Night on the Town
York has a thriving nightlife, especially in the sultry summer months, with several clubs and bars that have dancefloors, great drinks and lively atmosphere. The bigger clubs in the city are the best for large groups on hen or stag dos heading to the city. Kuda is York’s biggest nightclub, set across three floors, with different rooms accommodating to different musical tastes. You can also book VIP booths with table service. It is not just about nightclubs though, as there are several bars open to the early hours with DJs or live music to entertain you. And, if you are looking for something quieter to relax with your partner, there are plenty of fantastic cocktail bars in the city.
Theatre
Add some culture to your trip to York with a night at the theatre. York Theatre Royal, Friargate Theatre, Grand Opera House and the Joseph Rowntree Theatre have great summer events lined up, from comedy to drama, music to art, and often have touring musicals and plays appearing at the venues. There are fantastic shows all year round too, so take a look at their coming shows to book another trip to York and our apart-hotels!
Sightseeing Tour
York is a city with thousands of years of history, with many historical sites within the city walls. With so many landmarks to see, it is good to explore on a sightseeing tour, where a guide can give you more information about the attractions. Open-top bus tours are very popular in the summer, and you can see the top attractions in one go; York Minster, York Dungeon, Clifford’s Tower and the City Walls. The tours also offer hop on and off tickets so you can depart to explore more of the sights. If you want to see the city from a different view, you can take boat tours on the river; a lovely way to relax in the sun for an hour!
Out of the City
While there is loads to keep you entertained in York for days, you might also be interested in attractions and activities to do out of the city. You can catch the train to explore the gorgeous town of Harrogate for the day, head into the countryside for a walk, go for a pint at a traditional country pub, see historical sites in the countryside or even head to the coast for the day. No matter what you do on your trip to York, it should definitely be on your bucket list!
