What to Look For At The Harrogate Autumn Flower Show
The Harrogate Flower Shows are often considered to be the biggest gardening events of the year in the UK. The Spring Show took place in April this year, and the Autumn Flower Show is coming up, taking place on Friday 14th September to Sunday 16th September at the Great Yorkshire Showground. The show makes for a great day out with family and friends and are a special treat for those who enjoy the outdoors and spending time in the garden.
For those planning to see the up-coming Flower Show, we have put together some of the highlights to watch out for during your visit.
Plants of Pleasure
The theme of the Autumn Flower Show is Plants of Pleasure, journeying through years of plant enjoyment. The exhibition will explore how plants often considered naughty but nice came to be popular, such as the bitter coffee bean or flowers used for seductive perfumes. Then there are also plants and flowers used for healing throughout the world, and a vineyard of vines for wines and beers.
Giant Vegetable Competition
The battle for giant vegetables is always a popular event at the Autumn Flower Show, where enormous cabbages, marrows, pumpkins, leeks, carrots and more will be showcased. The competition can be found in The Gardening Hall, and you won’t want to miss the National Heavy Onion Championship take place – who knew such a thing existed?
Just like the Spring Flower Show, the Autumn Flower Show also has a display of Floral Art. Florists and arrangers from around the UK compete for the best display, and being the Autumn Show; each display will have a lovely autumnal influence, with cosy browns, oranges, reds, yellows and golds being popular colours replacing the vibrancy of the spring displays.
Feast! Food Theatre
It’s not just about the beautiful floral and plant displays, but also the delicious food they can be made into! You can sample some seasonal dishes from a fantastic line-up of chefs from around Yorkshire over the weekend. You can learn about chocolate making, try roast venison, tuck into a variety of pumpkin dishes, vegetable treats, learn about the production of making champagne from honey and spring water and much more.
The Autumn Flower Show has over 100 exhibitors with thousands of products on offer to suit any taste and budget, so it makes sense to do a bit of shopping when you are at the show. There are loads of plants and flowers to buy for, indoor and out, and gardening experts will be on hand to offer advice for novice gardeners attending the show. There will also be lots of gardening equipment, features and decorations to peruse if you are looking to spruce up your garden back home.
