Live Music Venues in York
When thinking of reasons to visit York, history, architecture and shopping may be the three that sit at the top of the list, but this is not all that the city has to offer! With a population of roughly 200,000 people to cater for, the city has developed to attract visitors and retain its locals. One element of this is offering a great selection of nightlife including high quality and varied live music. Driven by the determination of independent venues and the perseverance of promoters, the York live music scene is nothing less than thriving, bringing weekly, if not daily live music across the city’s varied venues. In this article, we look at some of the best places that you can watch a live act and what kind of thing you can expect to see here:
Right at the centre of the city, nestled away under York’s City Screen Cinema, lays The Basement. Covering a variety of pretty much all genres of music, along with other shows such as comedy and cabaret too, the venue strives to offer personal gigs to its punters, with people never more than a few meters from the performers. Often catering to people that want to see something a little different, this venue offers visitors a cheap ticket to a great night out!

The Crescent has two rooms, one which holds 100 people for smaller gigs and the other which can hold up to 250.
