Get The Inside Scoop: Top Stargazing Locations in Yorkshire
To infinity and beyond! Following Tim Peake’s mission to the International Space Station – a trip and spectacular descent celebrated in a current exhibition at the National Railway Museum where you can see his Spacecraft – we’ve decided to look to the skies, do our own stargazing, and give you some inspiration for different ways to enjoy Yorkshire during your stay at luxury aparthotels.
Are you ready to discover the night sky?
Yorkshire is brimming with Dark Sky Discovery Sites. Here are some of our favourites, local to York and Harrogate:
- Sutton Bank (a 45 minute drive from Harrogate and York): Opportunities to see the Milky Way at this rural site.
- Upper Nidderdale (a 30 minute drive from Harrogate): Above the areas of moorland and small villages are some of the darkest skies in England.
- University of York Astrocampus (about 15 mins from York, but allow an hour from Harrogate): Open to the public once a fortnight throughout the winter months, and monthly throughout the summer the seven main stars in the winter constellation Orion are visible to the naked eye.
Returning to Earth
When you do decide to come back to earth, we can soften your landing in a swaddle of blankets, luxurious linens and other home comforts.
The Lawrance has an exclusive selection of luxury self-catering apartments in both York and Harrogate where attention to detail ensures our guests can experience the indulgence of a premium hotel with all the freedom of having their own space, including a well-appointed contemporary kitchen.
