Easter Events – A Guide to Easter Activities in North Yorkshire
Easter is almost upon us and spring is in the air! The clocks have changed and we’re getting over losing an hour of sleep and enjoying the lighter evenings. The gardens in Harrogate are in full bloom and the beautiful yellow daffodils are decorating the grass beneath the iconic Clifford’s Tower and city walls in York. Read on to discover some springtime activities you can enjoy over Easter in North Yorkshire.
Great Bunny Search
Sponsored by York’s Chocolate Story, The Great Bunny Search is currently taking place around York. 26 individually decorated bunny sculptures have been placed around the city for you to find! We’ve heard they enjoy window shopping (hint). Details, maps and if you really don’t have the patience for a city-centre wide trail ‘cheat sheets’ can be found at the Visit York website here.
Balloon Tree Farm
Located at Gate Helmsley near Stamford bridge, Balloon Tree Farm is hosting an Easter Egg Trail from 5th – 22nd April. Hunt for clues placed on the fruit and veg around the farm to win a chococlatey prize. Afterwards you could also reward yourself with a delicious lunch from their on-site café. Choose from a selection of hot and cold meals freshly made from the menu or frequently changing special’s board. Alternatively pick up something from their deli counter or organic fruit and veg shop to take home or to cook in the fully equipped kitchens at our apart-hotel.
From Friday 19th – 22nd April you can try out the Easter egg trail around Castle Howard’s beautiful grounds. There will also be a traditional children’s funfair with train rides and swing boats. The Easter trail, in addition to the adventure playground, boat trips on the Great Lake (weather permitting), rides on the land train and delicious ice-cream make for a fun-packed day out for all the family.
Easter at RHS Harlow Carr
Join The Rhyming Rabbit at RHS Harlow Carr in Harrogate this Easter. From 30th March – 29th April enjoy a great garden adventure as you search for The Rhyming Rabbit and try out some craft activities. Presented in association with Macmillan Children’s Books, watch the stories by Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks come to life! Children can get creative by thinking up rhymes for the Rhyming Tree, sharing stories with the Garden Detectives or making rabbit-themed hand puppets. There will also be demonstrations featuring some majestic birds of prey.
Over Easter Weekend the Easter Bunny himself will be making an appearance as well as some of the book’s best-loved animal characters!
Activities vary daily, for details or admission costs see the RHS Harlow Carr website here.
Located near Wetherby, we recommend you plan to spend a full day at Stockeld Park as there is so much to do and see! Explore the Enchanted Forest as part of their daily Giant Easter Hunt with the promise of a free chocolate treat for all at the end. There will be other Easter themed activities including an Easter Circus (13th – 22d April), lambs in the paddock and arts and crafts. See their website for the full programme of events.
Once you have completed the Easter Trail you can run off some energy from your chocolatey buzz in the adventure playground, get lost in the Yew-tree maze, take a trip on the lake on one of their Buccaneer boats or have some retro fun at the roller skating rink!
Take a trip to Newby Hall in Ripon, near Harrogate, for one of their ever popular Easter Family Fun Days. Search for ‘Golden Eggs’ around the Alice in Wonderland themed gardens, have a game of Flamingo Croquet and immerse yourself in the curious and strange world as you take a trip down the rabbit hole and follow the magical trail throughout the Woodland Walk. On Easter Sunday and Monday the Mad Hatter, Alice and the Queen of Hearts will be making an appearance, for even more fun and games! For more information head to their website.
On Easter weekend (19th – 22nd April) little pirates can have some swashbuckling fun at the Easter trail around the North Yorkshire theme park to win a prize. Follow the clues around the treasure map to spell out a winning word. Eye patches at the ready for pirate themed face painting and other Easter fun includes live animals from Riggmoor Farm, puppet shows as well as all the usual rides and Jungle themed indoor play area.
