If you are in York or Harrogate for Valentine’s Day, treating you and your loved one to a romantic getaway, you are likely curious about what activities and attractions there are to make it truly magical. We have put together our favourite romantic things that are a little different which you can enjoy when visiting York and Harrogate.
Valentine’s River Cruise
City Cruises York are offering an exclusive online deal for the 14th, 16th and 17th February. If you book in advance, you and your other half will receive a glass of Prosecco each and a bag of heart-shaped chocolates for a 45-minute river cruise through York. The York City Cruise is a great way to explore the city, offering an entertaining and informative tour. You can escape the hustle and bustle of the streets and enjoy views of the historic city from a different perspective.
Valentine’s Spa Day
Rudding Park, on the outskirts of Harrogate, is the perfect place for a spa day. The current Valentine’s spa day offer includes a 50-minute treatment, access to the rooftop spa and garden, indoor swimming, and a chance to experience one of the escape zones: either audio, visual, mind or relax. If you don’t want to use up the whole day, there are half day options; the morning sessions include a drink and snack and afternoon treatments include afternoon tea. Other spas offering treatments for Valentine’s Day in Harrogate include the Turkish Baths, where you can also purchase gift cards if you want to return to the North Yorkshire town later in the year.
Valentine’s Cocktail, Ale or Gin Masterclass
The Botanist in York offers masterclasses for guests to learn more about the cocktails, ales and gins they serve and sell. It is also an excellent opportunity for you and your partner to try some new drinks, or learn how to make cocktails to wow your loved one! The cocktail masterclass gives you the chance to learn how the mixologist puts their delicious drinks together, or if ale is more to your taste you can sample the best local and world-famous beers. For gin connoisseurs, you can learn the origins and history of the tipple and taste the best of the best. Masterclasses are available for groups of six and more, making them perfect for group getaways! Other York establishments which offer cocktail masterclasses include the Cut & Chase, Slug and Lettuce and All Bar One.
Valentine’s Garden Walk
Though coats and scarves are still required, a walk in a beautiful garden during winter is very romantic! Harrogate and its surrounding areas are home to some gorgeous gardens, and you’ll be surprised at how good they look in February. Visit Valley Gardens in the centre of Harrogate, where some secluded corners of the garden might be the perfect place for a proposal! Or, head to RHS Garden Harlow Carr to wander their stunning gardens, such as the Streamside Garden or the Winter Walk. If you want to expand your garden at home, why not pick up one of the plants they sell at Harlow Carr and ask the staff for tips?
